According to Drenthe:
Q: They say that you’re the “joy of the locker room”, that you make it comfortable.
A: That embarrasses me. I’m a normal guy. I don’t know why, but everyone is always joking around with me, especially Sergio Ramos, Iker, Kaká, Marcelo, and sometimes Raúl and Cristiano. They never stop… They’re quite annoying [laughs]. I say that with affection though!
One day, we had a team dinner. I told them I wouldn’t be able to go, because I was taking care of my daughters. At 10 PM, the phone rang. It was Sergio Ramos: “Malaguita, where are you?” I replied, “Idiot, I can’t go.” After a while, the phone rang again. It was Sergio again. As my daughters went to bed, I was able to go to the dinner. As soon as I arrived, they started shouting at me, “come on, come on, sing a little.”
Q: What can you tell me about Raúl?
A: He’s number one, he’s my captain. He has always treated me very well, has always been very caring. He never stops joking around with me. I’m not going to tell you all the things that he says to me, but he’s a bit crazy. I say that affectionately.
Q: And how has Casillas dealt with you in the difficult moments?
A: Iker is crazier than Rulo. He calls me Malaguita, and is the reason why the entire team calls me Malaguita now. But it doesn’t matter… he’ll pay for it (laughter). In all seriousness, it’s very important for me that my teammates are happy having me there. For me, friends are the most important.
